Derbyshire County Cricket Club has signed Yorkshire wicketkeeper Dan Hodgson on loan ahead of the LV= County Championship match versus Worcestershire starting on Sunday.
The 24-year-old arrives on a month-long deal to provide cover behind the stumps for Graeme Welch’s men. He goes straight into the squad for the match at New Road in the absence of Tom Poynton (injury) and Richard Johnson (illness).
Selected by Yorkshire in 17 limited-overs matches last season, Hodgson has also notched 11 first-class appearances during his career for a combination of Yorkshire, Leeds/Bradford MCCU and the Mountaineers franchise in Zimbabwe.
His finest hours of the 2014 campaign included an unbeaten Twenty20 half-century versus Leicestershire and 90 off 98 balls versus Glamorgan in the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition.
Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch said: “Dan is a good young player. There’s stiff competition for places up there at Yorkshire, but he was still a regular for them in one-day cricket last season.
“Now he’s got a chance to stake a claim in first-class cricket by playing well for Derbyshire.
“I’m grateful to Martyn Moxon and Jason Gillespie for sanctioning it. Hopefully they’ll gain some benefit too with Dan returning a better cricketer.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Tom Poynton and Richard Johnson back into the fold as soon as possible. In the meantime I’m sure Dan will do a terrific job.”
