Stephen Moore hit 40 against his former county, but Lancashire Lightning came out on top claiming a 20-run victory at The 3aaa County Ground.
Rain delayed the start of play and the match was reduced to 19 overs a side.
Steven Croft and Karl Brown shared Lancashire’s highest ever fourth-wicket stand in Twenty20 cricket, adding 131 runs together to help the visitors recover from 38-3 in the fifth over to 169-3.
Croft hit six fours and three sixes to top-score with 76 off 52 balls, while Brown added 67 off 50 balls including six fours and two sixes. Wes Durston was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts with figures of 1-27 off four overs.
Derbyshire made a steady start in reply adding 39 for the first wicket in 5.5 overs before Chesney Hughes was first man out for 16.
Former Lancashire man Moore and Marcus North added 38, but both fell in quick succession with Derbyshire 88-3. Moore was run out for 40 off 35 balls (4 fours) and North was caught behind 26 off 19 balls.
Scott Elstone hit an unbeaten 24, while Wayne Madsen added 29, but Derbyshire fell 20 runs short closing their innings on 149-5.
Derbyshire return to four-day action on Sunday as they welcome Gloucestershire to The 3aaa County Ground; 11am start.
