Despite an unbeaten 34 from Wayne Madsen, Yorkshire Vikings claimed a comfortable eight-wicket win in the NatWest T20 Blast clash at Headingley.
After winning the toss, Derbyshire made a quick start with the bat courtesy of Stephen Moore (18) and Chesney Hughes (11), but the visitors lost four quick wickets to slip from 33-0 in the fourth over to 49-4 in the eighth.
Adil Rashid was the chief destroyer claiming figures of 4-19 off his four overs as Yorkshire dominated the middle overs. Madsen and Scott Elstone (14) added 33 runs in six overs, but the visitors struggled to find the boundaries in the face of some good bowling from Liam Plunkett (2-25 off four overs).
Madsen remained unbeaten at the close to top score with a run a ball 34, while Gareth Cross added a useful 20 off 18 balls, but Derbyshire could only post a below par total of 127-6 off their 20 overs.
Before the match all the hype was about world number one Twenty20 batsman Aaron Finch, who hit 19 off 17 balls, but the star of the Yorkshire reply was Alex Lees. He hit nine fours in his unbeaten 61 off 44 balls to top score for the hosts.
Mark Footitt (1-16) and Marcus North (1-17) claimed a wicket apiece, but they couldn’t stop the Vikings who cruised to their victory target in 14 overs.
