Wes Durston produced a fine all-round performance as Derbyshire Second XI claimed an 80-run victory against MCC Young Cricketer’s at Shenley.
Batting first, Derbyshire posted 247-6 off their 50 overs thanks to an excellent knock from Durston. The right-handed batsman hit seven fours and two sixes in his 88-ball 84.
He was ably assisted by opener Ben Slater who added 44 (4 fours), Tom Wood who hit 45 off 47 balls (4 fours, 1 six) and Greg Cork who was unbeaten on 33 off 36 balls (1 four, 2 sixes).
In response, MCC Young Cricketer’s were put in a spin by Durston and Chesney Hughes as the hosts were dismissed for 167 in 36.1 overs.
The spin bowling duo claimed four wickets apiece, with Hughes returning figures of 4-44 off his 10 overs, while Durston finished with 4-41 off 9.1 overs. Tom Knight (1-26 off six 6 overs) and Matt Higginbottom (1-28 off 5) claimed the remaining wickets to complete an 80-run victory for the Second XI.
