Madsen excited for Royal London One-Day Cup

WayneMadsenWayne Madsen is hoping the Falcons can turn red-ball form into white-ball cricket as Derbyshire begin their new Royal London One-Day Cup campaign against Hampshire at The 3aaa County Ground on Saturday (10.30am start).

Derbyshire enter the new domestic 50-over competition off the back of successive LV= County Championship victories, against Gloucestershire and Glamorgan.

Madsen says the tournament will give the squad a chance for a fresh start in the one-day format - and he’s hoping that plenty of youngsters can attend the fixture, as kids go FREE this Saturday.

“The kids go FREE offer for Saturday is great. I remember watching one-day cricket when I was a youngster and it was always brilliant to come down and watch great cricket,” Madsen said.

“We are really looking forward to the Royal London One-Day Cup starting on Saturday.

“We’ll go into Saturday with a lot of confidence on the back of the wins against Glamorgan and Gloucestershire.

“We will be looking to take our good LV= County Championship form into the competition so there’s no reason why we can’t continue to perform well as we have done over the last couple of weeks.

“It’s a new competition to tuck into and it’s something different because we haven’t played 50-over cricket for a while due to the 40-over competition that took over.

“We’ve got our plans in place that we want to achieve in the Royal London One-Day Cup," Madsen added.

“As it’s a new competition, it will be interesting to see what the totals are like and how teams play it. We will have our own tactics on the back of the 50-over game we played in Abu Dhabi in pre-season in which we played very well.

“There will be a few different things for us to get right.

“We just need to transform our red-ball cricket into the white-ball games.

“We start against a team, in Hampshire, who are an experienced one-day outfit so it will be a good challenge for us.”

Tickets will be available on the gate; however, the best value can be gained by purchasing tickets in advance of the day of the game. Kids go FREE!

Savings of up to £4 per adult ticket are available by purchasing online at derbyshireccc.com, over the phone on 0871 350 1870 or in person from The 3aaa County Ground.

Derbyshire Falcons face Hampshire Royals for a 10.30am start on Saturday 26 July in the Royal London One-Day Cup at The 3aaa County Ground.
