It has been confirmed that Shivnarine Chanderpaul will return to the West Indies this week ahead of the Test Series versus Bangladesh.
The First Test in St Vincent commences on 5th September and is preceded by a training camp which begins in August.
The 39-year-old West Indian has played 23 first-class matches during two seasons at The 3aaa County Ground; scoring 1,471 runs, at an average of 43.26, with one century and 14 fifties.
He added a further 495 runs, with four half-centuries, in limited-overs competitions, the last of which was the unbeaten 52 that saw him strike the winning runs in the recent Royal London One-Day Cup victory over Leicestershire.
Former Australia international Marcus North is already part of the squad having played 18 matches and will replace Chanderpaul during the Royal London One-Day Cup run-in and – following that – the remainder of the county season.
The Club is already pursuing a number of options in relation to the overseas player(s) for 2015, one of which is a contracted option for Chanderpaul to return for a third season.
Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch said: “Shiv is a legend of the game and has been an outstanding influence on and off the field for Derbyshire.
“It’s been a privilege to have him and he has played a central role in some important recent wins in 50-over and four day cricket.
“This is exactly why we moved to bring an experienced overseas alternative to the Club in Marcus North, who is already with the squad and up to speed with the conditions.
“Marcus is particularly well suited to playing a leading role in our Royal London One-Day Cup campaign because of his all-round ability with bat, ball and in the field.
“He’s also got a great record and lots of experience in the red ball format.
“Putting in place a successful overseas player strategy for 2015 is a big priority and we’re already looking at a number of options, taking into account the international cricket schedule, to help ensure that we are more competitive in all formats of the game next season.”
