The Derbyshire Falcons squad geared up for an exciting month of FLt20 action with a 2nd XI T20 win over Lancashire at Glossop.
Derbyshire fielded a strong side in the first of two matches, Wayne Madsen captaining a team including oversees star Rana Naved in preparation for the FLt20 campaign, beginning at the County Ground tomorrow against the Lancashire Lightning; 7pm start.
Having won the toss and elected to bowl first against a strong Lancashire side, the Falcons bowled with discipline, reducing the visitors to 116-9 from their 20 overs with Jon Clare (3-20) and Naved (2-15) both impressing from their four overs.
Contributions from Chesney Hughes (29) having opened the batting with Wes Durston, as well as a solid 33 from Madsen helped the hosts to their victory target with two overs to spare; the Falcons winning by five wickets.
The second game of the day saw a completely changed Derbyshire Falcons team with Garry Park returning to captain the side, and it was Lancashire this time who won the toss; electing to bat first.
The visitors reached a competitive 147-4 from their 20 overs, with the experienced Karl Brown the main protagonist with an unbeaten 64.
The Falcons’ response began positively with Matt Lineker and Tom Hamilton progressing the score to 74 without loss before the latter fell for 34.
Lineker and Park then took the score to 111 to keep the Falcons in the hunt before both fell in quick succession for 49 and 27 respectively with the home side still needing 28 with two overs remaining.
That task proved too much, with three wickets falling in the final over; the Falcons losing by 25 runs.
The close of the 2nd XI T20 campaign saw the side record three wins, three defeats with two matches abandoned from their eight games.
