Falcons confirm Jones link

Richard JonesHead Coach Karl Krikken has confirmed Derbyshire’s interest in signing Worcestershire bowler Richard Jones and says strengthening the squad for the future is an ongoing process.

The Falcons served Worcestershire with the required 28 days notice to open discussions with the 25-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Jones made his first-class debut for the New Road outfit in 2007. He has gone on to take 124 wickets in 39 first-class matches to date.

The 2012 campaign is proving to be particularly productive for the Stourbridge-born paceman who has so far taken 29 wickets, in seven LV= County Championship matches, at an average of 24.44.

Krikken said: “In order to build a successful and sustainable future, it’s important that – as well as continuing to nurture our home-grown talent – we remain on the lookout for quality additions from the outside.

“We believe Richard would come into that category, but he is far from the only player we’re looking at.

“The success enjoyed by David Wainwright already this campaign demonstrates how invaluable a signing from another county can be.

“If others can come in and have an equally positive impact in the future, it can only be for the good of the team.

“The process is ongoing. As well as striving for results here and now – we must always be building for the future.”
