The Derbyshire Falcons v Leicestershire Foxes showdown on Friday 29 June has been put back for a 7.30pm start as the Falcons work in conjunction with the City Council to support the City's Olympic Torch celebrations.
The new start time - 30 minutes later than originally planned - will allow as many Falcons’ fans as possible to cheer the Torch on as it arrives in the City Centre, then catch the Friends Life t20 action at The County Ground.
Derbyshire Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “I'm delighted that we were able to secure the agreement of ECB and Leicestershire to support us in the initiative.
“As a key sporting venue within the City, we are proud to play our part in Olympic Torch celebrations on what promises to be an evening of great festivity at the County Ground and across the City.
Derby City Council Director of Leisure and Culture Claire Davenport said: “We have a fabulous weekend planned for people in the city to celebrate this once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Olympic Flame in Derby.
“The new start time for the match on Friday 29 June is great news for cricket fans that can now enjoy the Torch Relay and support the Falcons on the same evening, then even join in with Derby’s party in the market place until midnight for those that wish to!”
The gates of the County Ground will be open from 5pm. Supporters are welcome to park at the County Ground and make their way into Derby City Centre for the torch before returning to the ground for the match.
Spectators are advised to give themselves plenty of travelling time on the night since there are closures across the City which could have a knock-on effect on the roads around The County Ground.
