Yorkshire next up at Queen's Park as Derbyshire resume promotion push

Derbyshire return to LV=County Championship action this Wednesday, July 18th, in what is arguably the county’s most important four day match in years.

With the White Rose county relegated from the top tier of the domestic game in 2011, the prospect of an LV=County Championship encounter at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, was always a mouth-watering proposition.

However the current context could not be more fascinating, with both sides battling for promotion from Division Two as the business end of the season approaches.

Derbyshire have enjoyed an excellent first half to the LV=County Championship campaign having established a 32 point lead at the break -  ahead of Kent and Wednesday’s opponents Yorkshire; Derbyshire having played a game more.

Yorkshire were unable to fully capitalise on their game in hand last week, however, as a heavily rain-affected contest down at the Ageas Bowl in Hampshire ended in an inevitable draw, despite Joe Root’s unbeaten 225.

That result ensured Yorkshire closed the gap on leaders Derbyshire by just seven points going into Wednesday’s crucial encounter.

Derbyshire have not played in the competition since June 7th, when the table-toppers were frustrated by the elements having been in a dominant position against Leicestershire before rain washed out the entirety of the fourth day.

With Derbyshire versus Yorkshire contests at Queen’s Park traditionally feisty and well-supported affairs, the scene is set for what promises to be an intriguing and potentially season-defining four days at one of the world’s most picturesque cricket grounds.

Tickets are still available for each day of the match – as well as Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 encounter against the same opponents – at the advanced ticket price of £13.

Tickets can be purchased from the County Ground, Derby and Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre on Rykneld Square.
