Krikken looks forward to Derbyshire v Yorkshire encounter

The North Derbyshire town of Chesterfield is set for a top of the table LV= County Championship clash between Derbyshire and Yorkshire starting on Wednesday, 11am.

The context of the local derby fixture could not be more fascinating with both sides battling for promotion from Division Two as the business end of the season approaches.

Derbyshire have enjoyed an excellent first half to the campaign having established a 25-point lead over second-placed Yorkshire with seven matches to go.

The scene is set for what promises to be an intriguing and pivotal four days at one of the world’s most picturesque cricket grounds.

Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, has played an important role throughout the county’s history, typified by the fact that this week’s encounter will be the 400th First Class match played by Derbyshire at the venue.

Head Coach Karl Krikken said: “The match versus Yorkshire is the first of seven hugely important games as we strive for our ambition of promotion.

“The lads have been outstanding during the first half of the campaign. The challenge now is to continue that form through to the very end. It all starts at Queen’s Park this week and we are really looking forward to it.”

Following the conclusion of the LV= County Championship match, the Derbyshire v Yorkshire rivalry continues on Sunday with the now traditional Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture starting at 1.45pm.
