Both the Derbyshire Falcons and the Kent Spitfires will go into Tuesday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 match believing they have an outside chance of qualification in the competition.
The Falcons have been rejuvenated in the 40 over format of late, with wins in their last two outings against the Unicorns and Yorkshire Carnegie respectively.
The impressive three wicket win over Yorkshire on Sunday, 22nd July saw Derbyshire move up to third place in the Group C table on eight points, having acquired three wins, three defeats and two No Results to date.
Tuesday’s visitors are yet to return to CB40 action following the conclusion of the Friends Life t20 Group Stages, having seen a potentially intriguing match against the Sussex Sharks abandoned without a ball being bowled on Monday, 16th July.
Although a place and a point behind the Falcons, the Spitfires have two games in hand on most of the sides above them – including Derbyshire – and will know that maximum points from both matches will breathe fresh life into their campaign.
Kent can boast a talented squad and have plenty of experience at their disposal with the likes of former England duo Rob Key and Geraint Jones as well as seasoned campaigners James Tredwell, Brendan Nash, Azhar Mahmood and Charlie Shreck.
However it is perhaps Kent’s youngsters that create the biggest talking point, with great things predicted of the likes of Daniel Bell-Drummond, Sam Billings, Alex Blake, Sam Northeast and Matt Coles; the latter having recently been called up to the England Lions squad.
The Falcons, however, have plenty of their own up and coming young players and with both sides desperate for a win to keep qualification hopes alive, the match promises to be an entertaining one under the floodlights at the County Ground with plenty of talent on display.
Derbyshire Falcons v Kent Spitfires in the CB40 takes place this Tuesday, 4:40pm start and tickets can be purchased at the advanced price of £13 adults and £6 juniors either from Reception in the Gateway Centre of the County Ground or by clicking here.
Tickets are available on the day for £16 adults and £8 juniors.
