Derbyshire fell to a 17 run defeat via the Duckworth Lewis method against Warwickshire in the 2nd XI Trophy on Tuesday in a rain-affected match at Dunstall.
Rain ensured that no play was possible until 1pm and when it did, it was Warwickshire who won the toss; electing to bat first.
With the game reduced to 35 overs per side, the visitors then made 244-9 with Ateeq Javid top scoring with 66. For Derbyshire, there were two wickets apiece for Ally Evans (6-0-38-2) and Ross Whiteley (7-0-68-2) whilst Matt Higginbottom was economical with figures of 7-1-19-1.
In reply, the hosts had reached 75-2 from 14.5 overs with Paul Borrington (pictured) top scoring with 42 before the rain arrived once again and curtailing the remainder of the day’s play.
With the Duckworth Lewis par score at 92 when the rain arrived, Warwickshire were declared winners by 17 runs.
