With the final LV=County Championship match of the season likely to prove the defining moment of Derbyshire’s promotion campaign, supporters can enjoy what will arguably the club’s biggest game in years in extra style.
Derbyshire v Hampshire, beginning Tuesday, 11th September, will no doubt be an enthralling encounter at the County Ground and the opening day of the contest coincides with the Boundary Club with former Derbyshire favourite Peter Bowler as Guest Speaker.
The event includes a two course meal as well as cheese, crackers and coffee, followed by a speech from Peter Bowler who, as well as having strong links to the cricket club, is developing a reputation as one of the most humorous and entertaining speakers on the circuit.
The batsman brought the curtain down on a long and successful career at the age of 41, having scored close to 20,000 First-Class runs with no fewer than 45 centuries.
As well as spells at Leicestershire and Somerset – where he captained the Taunton club for two seasons in the 1990s – Bowler enjoyed a successful period here at Derbyshire; where he is still remembered very fondly.
Bowler was a regular at the County Ground in the late 1980s and early to mid 1990s and was capped by the county in 1989.
The Devon-born occasional wicketkeeper was a huge part of the 1990 Sunday League winning side and just as integral in the Benson and Hedges Cup winning squad of 1993.
If being part of two of Derbyshire’s four trophy-winning sides wasn’t enough, Bowler held the Derbyshire record of highest score on debut – 155* - for 21 years before being surpassed by Wayne Madsen in 2009.
The Boundary Club Luncheon is a 12 noon for 12:30pm start at the County Ground with tickets priced at £37 + VAT (no VAT charge for members) and INCLUDES free admission to the opening day of the Derbyshire v Hampshire match.
