Derbyshire appeal to local Businesses ahead of top division cricket challenge

Chairman Chris Grant is calling for support from the business community as Derbyshire County Cricket Club looks forward to tackling the pinnacle of First Class cricket next season.

After achieving promotion to the LV= County Championship First Division as Champions back in September, the Club has set a target of £250,000 of incremental revenue to ready themselves for the challenge of competing at the highest level.

With key members of the title winning squad now committed to long-term contracts, the recruitment of a world-class overseas player remains a very important priority for Karl Krikken’s men ahead of the new campaign.

The additional revenue will also play a crucial role in maximising pre-season preparations for the team, specialist coaching and cricket development programmes within the local community.

Many Marketing Derby Bondholders are already answering the call and former Derbyshire all-rounder Jake Needham has been employed by the Club to manage business and community partnerships moving forward.

Between now and the start of the new season, the Club will be engaging with local companies to create the newly formed 1870 Business Club.

And Grant, who has already pledged substantial personal financial support to the cause, is confident the objectives can be met ahead of the new season.

‘We are very much looking forward to representing Derbyshire in the top tier of English cricket next year,’ he said.

‘Next season will be exciting and challenging; exciting because an even higher quality of cricket will be on offer and challenging to ensure that top level cricket is sustainable. We, therefore, recognise the need to invest further in our squad of players.

‘As part of our campaign to fly the flag for the county in 2013 and beyond, we’ve developed a series of partnership opportunities which will enable local businesses to share in our success by extracting brand exposure and excellent networking opportunities.

‘Every pound of income we raise will make a real difference in our quest to represent Derbyshire with pride at the highest level.

‘It will lead to tangible benefits in terms of the squad’s preparation and specialist coaching; for example, our pre-season tour and spin bowling clinics to provide valuable practice ahead of the 2013 campaign.

Increased input from local businesses will also allow us to invest ever more in community grass roots cricket and the continuing development of our Academy and age-group cricketers.

‘My message, therefore, to local businesses is simple; your county needs you. Please take a fresh look at our commercial offering, support us in 2013 and together let’s make Derbyshire proud.’
