After enjoying a successful winter in Zimbabwe, all-rounder Peter Burgoyne is now hoping to break into Karl Krikken’s four-day side in 2013, as the Falcons continue their preparations for the new season.
The squad returned from their preseason tour to Barbados at the weekend and are now preparing for their three-day friendly at Taunton on Monday.
Burgoyne, who played two CB40 games for Derbyshire last season, completed two first-class centuries while in Zimbabwe playing for Southern Rocks
The 19-year-old has been impressed with the side’s work ethic during preseason, and he is now hoping that his time abroad can aid his quest to gain more first team action in 2013.
“The tour to Barbados was great,” Burgoyne said. “We were able to practice and play in good warm conditions and, as it showed last year, it is a great place to prepare for a difficult Championship season and hopefully it will bring us similar success.
“We played very well and managed to get to the final of the twenty20 tournament, beating Warwickshire who are generally a good t20 side on the way.
“I am really looking forward to the new season getting underway. We travel down to Taunton next week for a three-day friendly, before we return to the County Ground the following week to face Nottinghamshire.
“I played all of the games out in Barbados during our preseason tour and I am now ready and looking forward to what will hopefully be a successful season in Division One, and in the limited-over formats.
“My aim for the new season is to play a fair bit with the first team and I am looking to play as much four-day cricket as I can.
“I enjoyed a good winter out in Zimbabwe and I feel that my game has improved during my time away. As mentioned, I played all of the games out in Barbados and hopefully I can now build on this when the season kicks off.”
