Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire since May 14th 2009, Willie Tucker, has been appointed President of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
The former Midlands Cooperative Society Chief Executive was appointed at the Club’s AGM on Wednesday, March 27th and will serve a one year term until March 2014.
Willie Tucker (pictured above alongside Chairman Chris Grant during a recent visit to the County Ground) was born in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire, in 1945, but has lived in Derbyshire for around 40 years, the last 20 in the village of Aston-on-Trent.
His career spanned 45 years with the Co-operative Movement, serving as Midlands Cooperative Society Chief Executive up to the date of his retirement in July 2005.
He is a former Chairman of Cooperative Insurance Society (CIS) and a former Director of the Cooperative Bank. He has been active in a number of charities in Derbyshire and was involved in Round Table, Derbyshire, for 16 years.
Willie Tucker said: “I am delighted and honoured to become the next President at Derbyshire County Cricket Club. It is a magnificent Club with a proud history and I am looking forward to being part of a prosperous future at the County Ground.”
The Club wishes to place on record thanks to outgoing President, Derek Morgan, a former Captain and outstanding all-round cricketer for Derbyshire from 1950 to 1969.
