Shivnarine Chanderpaul will arrive in Derbyshire in good time for the new campaign and the good news was relayed to the Club by Derby North MP Chris Williamson.
The world’s number two batsman is flying to the UK on Saturday and will be in the squad for Derbyshire’s opening LV= County Championship fixture against Warwickshire at Edgbaston starting on Wednesday. He may even make an appearance in the two day friendly versus Nottinghamshire at the County Ground starting this Sunday at 11am.
With the Club urgently needing to confirm flight arrangements, Mr Williamson stepped in to assist. He contacted the High Commissions of Guyana and Jamaica to confirm that everything was in order with the visa application; and that the paperwork was on track to be issued in time for the West Indies star to catch his Saturday flight.
Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “We would like to put on record our thanks to Chris Williamson MP for putting our minds at rest and confirming that our new signing would be able to arrive as planned this weekend.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming Shivnarine to the UK and introducing him to his new team mates in good time for the all important LV= County Championship opener.”
Warwickshire versus Derbyshire will take place at Edgbaston on Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th, Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April, 11am start.
Supporters’ first opportunity to witness Chanderpaul in competitive action at the County Ground, Derby, is the four day LV= County Championship fixture versus Nottinghamshire starting Wednesday 24th April.
