New Zealand Test Tourists presented with Derbyshire memento

RoyalCrownDerbyDerbyshire captain Wayne Madsen proudly presented New Zealand captain Kane Williamson with a Royal Crown Derby 22ct gold English Fine Bone China salad bowl as the two sides met in a three day fixture throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.

The nationally renowned local porcelain brand donated the hand-crafted gift to the touring Kiwis ahead of the three day match at the County Ground which acted as preparation for their Test series against England.

The presentation to the Black Caps skipper commemorated their first visit to the city of Derby for four years, the last occasion being when they took on Ireland in a warm-up match before the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in 2009.

The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company has traded in Derby since opening their first factory on Nottingham Road in 1750.

They are owned by one of the world’s most respected ceramic brands, Steelite International, and their world-renowned porcelain – a favourite with the Royal Family - is still manufactured in their factory in Osmaston Road where they employ 200 skilled craftspeople.

Derbyshire Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “It’s great to be able to provide the touring New Zealanders with a special memento of their visit to the county with something that is truly and quintessentially English.

“We’re very proud of our manufacturing heritage here in Derbyshire and there is no more prestigious local brand than Royal Crown Derby.

“We are delighted to able to provide the New Zealanders with a little piece of Derbyshire to take back with them to the Southern Hemisphere.”
