Falcons out to inspire in Sunday’s Lancashire clash

DerbyWayne Madsen is calling for a performance to inspire youngsters as Derbyshire Falcons take on Lancashire Lightning on Family Fun Day at the County Ground; this Sunday, 12th May (1.45pm start).

The Club has been working hard with local schools, community groups and their own junior members to ensure a strong family turnout and the pricing policy is such that a family of four can attend for just £32 if tickets are purchased in advance of the day.

Kids’ entertainment will be provided around the ground including the ever popular Freddie the Falcon, the LV= County Championship Division Two trophy will be available for photographs and an autograph session with the team will follow the conclusion of the game.

But Falcons’ skipper, Madsen, hopes his side’s performance will provide the headline act and will convince those in attendance to become regular spectators throughout the season.

He said: “Hopefully we will get a big crowd to get behind the boys as we begin our 40-over campaign.

“It will be great to see lots of families with their kids and we hope to provide them with an entertaining spectacle.

“By watching us - and from the atmosphere created at a one-day game - I hope the youngsters in the crowd will be inspired and encouraged to take up the sport in the future, both as spectators and as players.”

World number two Test batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is in line for his Derbyshire one-day debut against a Lancashire side likely to feature full internationals Ashwell Prince (South Africa) and Simon Katich (Australia).

Madsen added: “The Lancashire team is a good unit and we’ve had some good games against them down the years in Twenty20 cricket. But we haven’t played them in 40 over cricket for a while so it will be a fresh challenge for both sides and an exciting match to watch.

“They will obviously be a well drilled outfit so we have to be on top of our game, but I am confident we can claim a positive result.”

Supporters who buy tickets in advance will benefit from discounted prices of £12 adults, £4 juniors and £4 car parking; available online here or by calling 01332 388 101.

A further £2 discount is available per adult ticket for a group containing four or more adults and – new for 2013 – the Six Pack Ticket buys six matches for £55.

Tickets are also available on the gate priced at £16 adults, £5 juniors and £5 car parking.
