Australia legend and Ashes winning Captain Ricky Ponting has been named in Surrey’s 14-man squad for tomorrow’s Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture versus Derbyshire at the County Ground; 4.40pm start.
The 38-year-old arrived in England on Tuesday morning after his recent stint competing in the Indian Premier League, and the former Australian captain is now set to make his Surrey debut at Derby on Wednesday evening.
The experienced batsman is a veteran of 375 one-day internationals - in which time he has compiled over 13,000 runs at an average of 42.03 – and is widely recognised as one of Australia’s most successful Captains of all time.
Ponting will spearhead a Surrey line-up that will likely include England internationals Steven Davies, Vikram Solanki, Gareth Batty, Jon Lewis, Chris Tremlett and Jade Dernbach.
The Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture, sponsored by Bell & Co, will be screened live on Sky Sports with live images and replay action on the big screen at the ground. Family Fun activities will be on offer throughout the evening including the launch of a groundbreaking community partnership between Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service with a fire engine, smoke house simulator and fire prevention team in attendance.
Ponting will also be available for the four-day LV= County Championship fixture, beginning on Thursday, 30th May. Tickets will be available on the gate for both fixtures.
One adult and two juniors can attend the YB40 fixture for just £15, while the price for two adults and two juniors is £20, if tickets are purchased by midnight tonight. Click here to buy tickets online >>>
