Morkel hoping to extend winning run against Lancashire

AlbieMorkelAlbie Morkel is looking forward to making his home debut tomorrow night against Lancashire Lightning; 7.10pm start – and he is confident that the Falcons can continue the momentum after securing back-to-back wins in their opening two fixtures.

Derbyshire currently sit top of the North Division after securing victories away at Yorkshire and Leicestershire in as many days. Karl Krikken’s side now prepare for their first home Friends Life t20 match of the season against the Red Rose County, before the big local derby against Nottinghamshire on Friday, 5th July; 7pm start.

Morkel insists that the Falcons can continue their excellent start to the competition, and believes a quick pitch at Derby will make for an entertaining fixture under the floodlights at the County Ground.

“It’s going well so far and we have got off to a great start,” Morkel said. “It is always good to win your first game to gain a bit of momentum and luckily we went on to win our first two which has put us in a good position.

“Now we prepare for Lancashire tomorrow and then Nottinghamshire on Friday. They are two very good sides. Lancashire are a fantastic team, but we are definitely going to be up for it.

“I have tried to encourage the guys to not be scared of playing against anyone and that is what we have been doing for the last two games. We have been trying to get into the batsman faces and make them feel uncomfortably. We have tried to squeeze the singles and it has worked so far.

“Lancashire and Nottinghamshire are two different games for us and they are at home. If you want to do well you have to try and win your home games and let’s hope the weather plays along this week and we can have some cracking games.

“I have only played one game at the County Ground before, a few years ago before they moved the wicket around, so I’m not too familiar with the conditions here but they say it has quickened up this year and there is good carry for the fast bowlers.

“With wickets like this you also tend to get high-scoring contests and that is what people want to see, especially in front of the Sky Sports cameras, so they set to be two very entertaining games – and hopefully we can get two more victories.”
