The sell-out fixture versus the Nottinghamshire Outlaws on Friday was the biggest for a home Derbyshire fixture in 23 years.
The Club received unprecedented demand for tickets, announcing an advanced sell-out and recording the biggest attendance since the Sunday League success of 1990.
Three wickets from Samit Patel and an impressive knock from Michael Lumb guided the visitors to a six-wicket win in-front of a crowd just shy of 5,000 spectators at the County Ground.
Derbyshire, however, remain second in the North Division after claiming three wins from their opening four fixtures and are in Twenty20 action again this Sunday when they welcome Yorkshire Vikings to Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, with a 2.30pm.
Chief Executive Simon Storey said: “The Club would like to thank all supporters who attended Friday’s sell-out fixture for their support. There was a great atmosphere within the ground and – despite the result that saw our visitors emerge with a well deserved win, and a few technical issues regarding the PA which will be addressed – we hope everybody enjoyed the occasion.
“The cooperation of so many supporters in collecting their tickets during the day – and arriving at the ground in plenty of time – was also greatly appreciated and played its part in avoiding congestion on the gates. I also want to thank those supporters who unfortunately missed out due to the game selling out; it was incredibly hard to turn people away but we must comply with strict health and safety guidelines and we hope they will not be put off and join us for our remaining home fixtures in Chesterfield and here at The County Ground.
“Finally, many thanks also to our off-the-field team who worked incredibly hard to ensure that match-day operations ran smoothly. Their hard work now continues as we prepare for the Hill Dickinson Chesterfield Festival of Cricket which starts with another local derby versus Yorkshire Vikings on Sunday.”
