Durham claim victory on final morning at Chester-le-Street

PoyntonChris Rushworth sealed career-best match figures on the final morning, as Durham quickly picked up the last three Derbyshire wickets to complete a 279-run victory at Chester-le-Street.

Derbyshire began Day 4 on 181-7, still requiring 291 runs to win with a full day's play still to go. But the visitors lost their final three wickets inside three overs to hand Durham a convincing victory. 

Ben Stokes (4-62)  picked up two wickets in as many overs, before Rushworth claimed his fourth wicket of the inning, removing Tim Groenewald for 7, as the paceman returned impressive match figures of 10 for 92. 

Tom Poynton held firm for Karl Krikken’s side, remaining unbeaten on 58 at the close, but it wasn’t enough as Jonathan Clare (2), Groenewald (7) and Mark Footitt (2) were all dismissed inside 15 minutes.

Derbyshire Falcons are back in action tomorrow evening as they resume their Friends Life t20 campaign against Lancashire at Old Trafford; 6.30pm start.

Karl Krikken’s men will be looking to secure their fourth victory of the competition after already claiming wins against Yorkshire, Lancashire and Leicestershire.

The Falcons are next in action in Derbyshire on Sunday, 14th July (2.30pm start) as Wayne Madsen’s side welcome Yorkshire Vikings to Queen’s Park, Chesterfield.
