Gordon Muchall’s explosive half-century helped Durham Dynamos secure a 37-run victory against Derbyshire Falcons at Chester-le-Street.
Muchall produced a brutal display of hitting to end unbeaten on 66 from just 36 balls, as Durham posted 187-3 from their 20 overs - the Dynamos' highest ever Twenty20 total against the Falcons.
Chesney Hughes got the visitors off to a solid start in reply, before Dan Redfern top-scored with 43 off 34 balls, but it was ultimately in vain as Karl Krikken’s side lost wickets at regular intervals to be dismissed for 150 with seven balls remaining.
After losing the toss, the Dynamos made a quick start with the bat courtesy of Captain Mark Stoneman who led the way with 47 off 34 balls. He was duly assisted by Phil Mustard who chipped in with 24 as Durham moved onto 78-1 after 10 overs.
It was, however, the 79-run partnership between Muchall and Scott Borthwick that put the hosts on top. Borthwick hit two sixes in his knock of 31, while Muchall struck four fours and three sixes in his stand out performance to help Durham set Derbyshire 188 for victory at the Emirates ICG.
The Falcons made a lightning start in search of their record-breaking target. Hughes struck 34 off 22 balls - including seven fours - to help move the visitors onto 42-1 after just four overs.
But Derbyshire lost regular wickets to dash any hopes of victory and, despite a timely innings from Redfern who added 43 - including four fours and a six - the Falcons were dismissed for 150 to hand Durham a 37-run victory.
