Team building day for Cricket Derbyshire Univeristy of Derby Academy

DFRS AcademyDerbyshire’s 13 academy players yesterday took part in a team building day at Nottingham Road Community Fire Station.

Taking part in hose running exercises and various other activities, the young Derbyshire cricketers tested their agility and ability to solve problems as a group, all geared towards  strengthening their bond as a team. They also received timely input from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Dying2Drive workshop (http://goo.gl/qWm0U) and received a demonstration of the Road Traffic Extrication techniques that DFRS currently employ.

This was demonstrated to the cricketers by members of the operational fire crew at Nottingham Road Fire Station using our Transformer Vehicle; a vehicle which was developed in close partnership with Toyota Manufacturing UK and the University of Derby.

The day, which was designed and delivered by the Services Youth Workers and fire service instructors, is the first of its kind in Derbyshire with future opportunities under consideration.

Cricket Derbyshire University of Derby Academy Captain Ben Cotton said: “Today has been absolutely brilliant and has given us all the opportunity to work together as a team in a very different environment to the cricket field.

‘It is crucial to being a successful team that you all work together and have trust in your fellow team members. Today has given us a real insight into the work of the fire service and the bonds that must exist between firefighters, something that is replicated within the players at the academy.”
