Elite Performance Report 7 | Chairman’s rallying call

ChrisGrantChairman Chris Grant believes that – with the continued support of members and business partners – Derbyshire can become a sustainable First Division county.

After getting a taste of top-flight cricket last season, Grant wants the Club to build a platform to bring long-term success across all three competitions and make First Division cricket the norm.

He believes that installing a culture of elite performance will bring the best possible chance of achieving those goals; but admits the whole model is reliant on consistently good responses to the Club’s annual membership, ticketing and business-to-business campaigns.

“It certainly feels like there is a real feel-good factor around the Club,” he said. “I think we now need to convey that to people on the outside in terms of membership and business partners.

“We’re very reliant on them. We had a very good year last year commercially with ticket sales very much ahead. But it’s going to be a very exciting campaign this year, back in Division Two, striving for promotion straight from the off.

Derbyshire steps up ambition for pre-season tour to Abu Dhabi

AbuDhabiAs the new Elite Performance model at the County Ground continues to take shape, Derbyshire County Cricket Club has stepped up its ambition to secure a potential pre-season tour in Abu Dhabi.

It is, however, reliant on the financial backing from supporters and local business partners.

As new Elite Cricket Performance Director Graeme Welch plots for a successful season, he is hoping to take the squad to the United Arab Emirates in March where they would train and play competitive fixtures at the state of the art Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

As well as the matches themselves, Abu Dhabi would provide a warm-weather backdrop to the intense regime of Elite Performance Training that is already preparing Derbyshire for the 2014 campaign.
