Superb Derbyshire stay clear at the top

Derbyshire completed an LV=County Championship win inside three days for the second consecutive match, with a 10 wicket win over promotion hopefuls Essex.

The result represents Derbyshire’s first win at Chelmsford since 1937 and sees Derbyshire extends their lead at the top of the LV=County Championship Division Two table.

Chasing 94 to win, Martin Guptill (66*) and Paul Borrington (30*) made short work of the total, chasing down the target in the 19th over.

Kids flock to the Falcons

1,000th Junior MemberJunior Membership of Derbyshire County Cricket Club has topped 1,000.

To celebrate, junior members – who can attend all Derbyshire home cricket throughout the season for FREE - can bring their parents, relatives, neighbours and any other guests to the Clydesdale Bank 40 match versus Warwickshire Bears on Bank Holiday Monday 4th June, also for FREE.

It’s taken just two years to reach the remarkable landmark – and the Club will continue to recruit throughout the summer with more joining every day.

After the decision to make Junior Membership free ahead of the 2010 campaign, the Club was rewarded with the ECB Business of Cricket Award for Best Membership campaign in the promotion’s inaugural summer.

Derbyshire to host Wedding Open Day

Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s much anticipated Wedding Open Day is now under three weeks away and as the interest in what is sure to be a terrific events increases, so does the number of wedding partners taking part.

The club is delighted that Virgin Active, HeavenV and Marmalade and Tea are three new Wedding Partners to come on board to add to an eclectic mix that will be present; all of whom can be viewed here.

The day itself takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4th against a backdrop of Derbyshire Falcons v Warwickshire Bears in The County Ground’s renowned County Ground Marquee.

Day Three Live Scorecard/Day Two Report and Highlights

Wes Durston (pictured) was the main protagonist with a commanding century as Derbyshire emerged with a 141 run advantage after their first innings on Day Two.

The visitors amassed 323 before reducing Essex to 46-2 at the close of play with both openers dismissed; the hosts still 95 runs behind with eight second wickets remaining.

Owais Shah (26*) and Mark Pettini (17*) will resume on Day Three looking thwart the Derbyshire dominance that has seen the visitors take a commanding position in the game.

Worcestershire 2nd XI dominate on Day Two

Worcestershire took firm control of the 2nd XI Championship match on Day Two at The County Ground, amassing 505-7 declared in response to Derbyshire's 299; an innings that saw Matt Lineker score 145.

Resuming 77-1, the morning began well for the hosts with Jack Manuel clean bowled by Mark Turner in the second over of the day without adding to his overnight score.

From that moment on however, Derbyshire were made to toil, Worcestershire going on to amass 505-7 declared to build a daunting first innings lead.

Day Two Live Scorecard/ Day One Report

Derbyshire enter Day Two at the Ford County Ground having enjoyed much the better of the first day at Chelmsford.

Having lost the toss, the visitors were asked to bowl first before dismissing the hosts for 182 inside 80 overs, with David Wainwright starring with figures of 5-51.

Having reached 37-1 at the close, Derbyshire will begin Day Two 145 runs adrift of Essex' first innings effort, with Martin Guptill (19*) and Wayne Madsen (15*) the not out batsmen.

Derbyshire Committee endorses the Chairman’s vision

Chris GrantThe Derbyshire County Cricket Club General Committee has declared unanimous support for the Chairman’s recent personal statement and ambitions for the club’s future.

Chris Grant penned his statement last week outlining his vision for the Club which is designed to ensure a sustainable future for Derbyshire. Competing for silverware and producing England players are at the top of his forward-thinking agenda.

Simon Storey, the new Chief Executive, also presented the Committee with his own preliminary thoughts concerning the future commercial development of the Club which were similarly endorsed by the Committee.

Defeat for Falcons despite strong start

Derbyshire Falcons left Leeds empty handed despite the visitors enjoying much the better of the early stages at Headingley Carnegie.

The Falcons were looking to bounce back in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition having tasted defeat for the first time this season against the Warwickshire Bears at Edgbaston and the signs were good as Martin Guptill and Chesney Hughes fired the visitors in to a commanding position.

However a batting collapse ensured that a Gary Ballance inspired Yorkshire Carnegie emerged victorious by seven wickets.
