Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with University of Derby graduate Paul Borrington made his first-class debut for Derbyshire against Leicestershire in 2005.
The opening batsman, however, found opportunities were limited during the early part of his career until he made his maiden first-class hundred for Loughborough UCCE against Hampshire in 2009. By the end of the summer, he had gained a regular spot in Derbyshire’s first team.
Borrington looked ready to secure one of the opening slots at the start of the 2011 season, only to suffer torn ankle ligaments during fielding practice.
Once fit again he regained his place in the county’s victorious 2012 LV= County Championship Division Two side, featuring in more than half of the matches.
Injury again ruled him out of the start of the 2013 campaign, but by the close of the campaign Borrington had reclaimed his spot at the top of the order in the four-day contest.
Unlike previous seasons, Borrington was a regular in the county’s List A side in 2013, featuring in 11 matches scoring 237 runs including a career-best 72 against Surrey.
Paul Borrington hits his highest first-class score for Derbyshire, 98 against Northamptonshire in 2012 at The 3aaa County Ground.
