After a standout 2013 campaign, Captain Wayne Madsen signed a new three-year contract committing him to the Club until the end of the 2016 season.
After joining the Club in 2009, Madsen hit two centuries in his first four games with the county and averaged 57.78 in the County Championship in his first season.
He became a solid presence at the top of the Derbyshire order and was named Club Captain in 2012, leading the county to LV= County Championship promotion and their first silverware since 1993. During that season he compiled a career-best 231 against Northamptonshire and shared a ninth-wicket partnership of 261 with Tom Poynton which was just 23 runs short of the world record.
Madsen enjoyed his best season of his professional career in 2013. He became the first player in the country to reach 1,000 LV= County Championship Division One runs during a standout 2013 season which brought a total of 1,239 first-class runs at 43.60 with three hundreds and eight fifties.
He also added 389 runs in the one-day arena in 2013, including a career-best List A score of 78 in Derbyshire’s 40-over match versus Lancashire.
