Peterson heartbreak
Date Posted: 25-01-2010

News from around the cricketing world...

Robin Peterson suffered semi-final heartbreak with the Cape Cobras at the weekend as the Warriors won a pulsating 40 over thriller at Boland Bank Park, Paarl.

Peterson’s 1 for 30 from seven overs made him by far the Cobras’ most economical bowler as the Warriors scored 274 for 4 from their 40 overs.

The Derbyshire bound all-rounder then contributed a run-a-ball 24 as his side fell nine runs short.

Elsewhere, day/night Test cricket seemingly moved a step closer with the news that Cricket Australia are considering playing floodlit Sheffield Shield matches as early as next season.

The Australian team, meanwhile, continue to look in ominous form as they steamrolled Pakistan for 127 after half centuries from Shane Watson and Cameron White had taken the hosts to a total of 267 for 6.

Domestically, Kabir Ali completed his move from Worcestershire to Hampshire - and Somerset completed the signing of West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard for the Friends Provident T20 competition.

Finally, the future of Test Cricket at Old Trafford is on the line. Andrew Flintoff has appealed to Lancashire’s members and supporters to petition Trafford Council in support of the club’s redevelopment plans.

The Manchester venue missed out on Ashes cricket in 2009 and desperately needs the proposed redevelopment in order to attract more Test cricket in the future.
