 Profile:

Left-handed batsman John Sadler joined Derbyshire in October 2007 after five seasons with Leicestershire.

Sadler joined Leicestershire from Yorkshire in 2003 and after making little impact in his two early appearances, he burst onto the scene during the second half of his debut season.

Sadler scored his maiden first-class century against Surrey in August before repeating the feat against Sussex the following month and ending his rookie first-class season with an impressive average of 43.40.

Second season syndrome seemed to strike somewhat the following year but - after a welcome return to form in 2005 - averaging 50.33 in his six appearances - Sadler enjoyed his best season to date the following year.

He passed 50 eight times that season - scoring 1024 runs at an average of 48.76 - including a half-century in each innings against the touring Pakistanis and bagging a third career hundred in an unbeaten 128 against Essex.

2007 was not such a prolific season in the first-class game but it was a breakthrough season for Sadler in one-day cricket.

Relishing the opportunity of batting at number three, Sadler scored 510 one-day runs in 2007 at an average of 56.66, including a magnificent unbeaten 113 against Derbyshire in the Friends Provident Trophy.

Sadler's debut season at Derbyshire brought 301 first-class runs, in eight matches, at an average of 21.50, including one half-century.

In limited-overs cricket he played some effective cameos and averaged 26.12 in 10 appearances, including a highest score of 46 against Durham.

The 2009 season saw Sadler given a regular role in the limited-overs order, one which he played to good effect with a string of contributions including an under pressure unbeaten 33, off 28 balls, to guide the team to victory in the NatWest Pro40 match against the Surrey Brown Caps.

This good limited-overs form saw Sadler make the breakthrough into the first-class team for the final three matches of the season.

However, with the top order in such magnificent form, Sadler got little opportunity to make a telling contribution. He was out just once in four innings, scoring 71 runs.
