 Profile:

A consistent run scorer at the top of the Western Australia order since the early 21st century, Chris Rogers was first brought to county cricket, by Derbyshire, in 2004.

He began the season in terrific form - scoring 498 runs in six matches at an average of over 55 - only for a serious shoulder injury to wipe out the rest of his season. Rogers passed 50 four times in 11 innings and recorded a top score of 156 against Durham.

The powerful opening batsman then returned to the East Midlands in 2005 for a short spell with Leicestershire, averaging 73.50 in three first-class matches.

Ironically, Rogers did the confidence of his fellow countrymen's confidence no favours during their unsuccessful Ashes defence in 2005 when he blazed them for 209 from just 219 balls in a tour match against them at Grace Road.

The runs for Western Australia continued to flow at an average of approaching 50 and Rogers got his long term chance in county cricket with Northamptonshire in 2006.

Although the slow, turning Wantage Road tracks are a far cry from what Rogers - who is a ferocious hooker, puller and cutter of the ball - is used to at the WACA in Perth, his record over the course of two seasons with Northamptonshire is fantastic; 1762 runs in 22 matches at an average of 50.34.

His finest hour in a Northamptonshire shirt came in August 2006 when he amassed a career best 319 against Gloucestershire at Wantage Road.

Rogers was a revelation in his first season back at the County Ground, amassing 1372 first-class runs at an average of 57.16 and also contributing consistently in one-day cricket.

The Aussie left-hander reached three figures in the opening match of the LV County Championship season against Gloucestershire and - although his second century of the campaign did not come until after the Twenty20 break - hardly a match went by without him contributing at least one half-century.

Century number two came against his former county Northamptonshire and it was closely followed by another ton against Bangladesh A the following week.

Taking over the captaincy mid-season brought the best out of Rogers as he put Warwickshire to the sword with an unbeaten 248 at Edgbaston.

He was 27 runs short of breaking the Club's all-time record individual score: instead having to settle for third place behind George Davidson (274 against Lancashire in 1896) and Pat Vaulkhard (264 against Nottinghamshire in 1946).

Rogers' score was, however, the best individual score of all time by a Derbyshire opener.

Having set the standards in 2008, Rogers surpassed them the following year, scoring two further double-hundreds and finishing the season with 1461 first-class runs at an average of 73.05 – this despite missing the opening three matches of the season due to a Visa delay.
