Profile:
A product of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club Academy, Dan Redfern announced himself as a potential star of the future when, aged 16, he scored a century on his second team debut against Lancashire in 2006.
A first team debut in a NatWest Pro40 match against Worcestershire followed days later and although he was run out by a direct hit from Lou Vincent, the foundations had been laid for a future in the professional game.
Redfern made his first-class debut against Cambridge University early on in the following season scoring 46 in a drawn match.
A handful of further first team appearances followed and as well as beginning to demonstrate that his right-arm off-spin is a more than handy second string to his bow, Redfern underlined his potential with the bat by scoring 43 and 51 against a Northamptonshire during the final match of 2007.
In 2008, Redfern enjoyed a run in the England Under 19's team, scoring a fine 151 against New Zealand at Taunton before returning and forcing his way into the Derbyshire first team.
An unbeaten 57 from 56 balls to take the Phantoms to an unlikely televised tie against Yorkshire and Redfern scored 69 not out in the LV County Championship match against Glamorgan.
The following season saw Redfern become a fixture in the side, making 14 LV = County Championship appearances and 12 further outings in the limited-overs forms of the game.
Showing flashes of brilliance and making batting look easy when on-song, Redfern contributed five half-centuries and 668 runs in first-class cricket.
The frustration, however, was his inability to turn an elegant start into a big score, although Redfern was unfortunate to receive an unplayable delivery from Nicky Boje having reached 95 in supreme style against Northamptonshire.
