Talented West Indian all-rounder Chesney Hughes signed for Derbyshire, aged 18, midway through the 2009 season.

Anguillan born but able to play on these shores without restriction due his ownership of a British passport, Hughes combines slow left-arm bowling with left-handed middle-order batting.

Hughes made his senior Twenty20 debut for Anguilla at the age of just 14 and had been earmarked as a potential future international star in the Caribbean prior to committing himself to the English game with Derbyshire.

After impressing in the Derbyshire Second XI as well as setting the Northern Premier League alight with Fleetwood CC, Hughes experienced first team action for the first time with four NatWest Pro40 League appearances in 2009.
